John Oliver Makes New Doomsday Video For CNN

John Oliver thinks CNN needs a new Doomsday video.  We learned earlier this year CNN has, for years, had Turner Doomsday Video, which Ted Turner produced in the network’s early days, with instructions, “Hold for release until end of world confirmed.”

“Oh, that’s great, CNN. So you’re going to wait until the end of the world to actually confirm something,” Oliver said. The video is of a military band playing “Nearer My God To Thee” which, as legend has it, was played on board the Titanic as it sank. But, Oliver noted, we now know the last thing those drowning people heard was “a French Canadian space mermaid” singing “My Heart Will Go On.”

Anyway, John Oliver’s Doomsday Video isn’t sad, like Ted Turner’s. It’s celebratory. It stars Martin Sheen. And cats.
