VidCon Sets July Lineup Featuring Major YouTube Competitors

VidCon, the vast fan gathering that’s becoming the Comic-Con of the online-video world for Hollywood, will feature execs from some of YouTube’s new legion of competitors, including Vessel, GoPro and Twitter.

VidCon show floorThe conference, again at the Anaheim Convention Center, will run from July 23 to July 25, and on the fan side will again feature more than 300 social-media stars making appearances that can create dog-whistle moments from screaming hordes of tween and teen fans. More than 20,000 attendees are expected this year.

The event was founded in 2010 by video-blogging brothers Hank Green and John Green (also the author of The Fault In Our Stars). The conference’s professional side will feature speeches by Jason Kilar of high-end subscription-video site Vessel; Baljeet Singh, who is product lead for Twitter’s TV and video units (the company just launched its own native video player); and Zander Lurie, SVP of media at GoPro, whose cameras are used widely by extreme-sports video creators.

“This year’s speakers not only share a passion for online video, but have also successfully parlayed that passion into new and creative content, partnerships and opportunities, which are inspirational for future video stars and potential decision makers,” said Hank Green.

Panels will look at issues such as developing profitable content; creating content for big brands; crossing over to traditional Hollywood and book deals; and the future of the multi-channel network, a term that fell out of favor almost as fast as it became a big thing.
