UPDATED, 2:30 PM: More good news for freshman comedy Fresh Off The Boat, which went up a tenth in the finals to a 1.5 in 18-49. The CW’s The Flash also was adjusted up to 1.4, up a tenth from its most recent original in Live+Same Day. Adding a tenth in the final were also NBC’s The Voice (2.5) and CBS’ NCIS (2.0), both avoiding lows, as well as CBS’ Person of Interest episode featuring Taraji P. Henson (1.5), and Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen (1.3).
PREVIOUSLY, 10 PM: Overnight ratings matter little to network executives, but with the upfronts less than a month away, upward and downward movement for bubble shows could influence the ultimate decision on their fate.
The CW’s midseason drama iZombie already sealed its renewal last week when it held steady despite having a repeat Flash lead-in. With The Flash back in originals (1.3, even with most recent episode), iZombie (0.8) perked up a tenth to its best delivery since the premiere in both 18-49 and total viewers (1.98 million) while hitting a new high in adults 18-34 (0.7). The Flash and iZombie teamed up to finish No 1 for the night in adults 18-34, tying NBC, which had The Voice.
The renewal of NBC multi-camera comedy Undateable is more up in the air, and its .1 ratings bump from its last episode two weeks ago neither helped nor hurt its cause as it followed a lead-in ratings increase for The Voice (1.9 for a clip show two Tuesdays ago and 2.4 last night). The singing competition (2.4) was down 11% from last week to a possible cycle low, pending adjustments.
The news was a bit more alarming for NBC’s new midseason comedy entry One Big Happy (1.1), which slipped a tenth from its last original two weeks ago.
And it’s red alert for fellow midseason comedy Weird Loners on Fox. With a repeat New Girl as a lead-in, the new comedy slipped a tenth from last week to a low mark of a 0.6 in adults 18-49. The only non-Friday/Saturday scripted show on the Big 4 I can think of that dropped to a 0.6 before getting yanked was NBC’s The Michael J. Fox Show. At 8 PM, Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen (1.2) was even with last week.
Meanwhile, more smooth sailing for another midseason comedy, ABC’s Fresh Off The Boat (1.4), which matched its rating from last week, further solidifying its renewal chances. Repeat After Me (1.1) was up a tenth from its most recent original. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1.6) is gaining spring momentum, up a tenth from last Tuesday for a second consecutive week of ratings gains. ABC continued the Marvel theme through the 10 PM hour with a rerun of Monday’s Avengers edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live (0.9), which matched the delivery of the Forever original that aired in the hour last week.
CBS won the night in 18-49 (1.7) and total viewers (12.8 million). It once again was paced by NCIS (1.9, 15.4 million), which is flirting with a series low if there is no upward adjustment in the finals. NCIS: New Orleans (1.8) and Person Of Interest (1.4), featuring a return of original co-star Taraji P. Henson, were both up a tenth from last week.
