EXCLUSIVE: Nina Arianda, who won a Tony Award for her leading role in Venus In Fur, will join the cast of Stephen Frears’ Florence Foster Jenkins opposite Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. The Pathe-financed film follows the true story of Jenkins (Streep), who used her wealth and high-society connections at the turn of the 20th century to gain traction as a singer. There was one catch: She couldn’t actually sing. Grant plays her butler and best friend. Arianda will play Agnes Stark, a sexy showgirl trying to work her way into the social stratosphere with the help of her husband. When she first hears Florence’s singing, she cannot help but laugh, but eventually she becomes one of her biggest supporters.
Arianda most recently was seen opposite Al Pacino in film adaptation of Philip Roth’s The Humbling and opposite Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy in the multi-part The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby. She recently wrapped the independent film You Were Never Here opposite Mireille Enos and is slated to return to Broadway in the fall with co-star Sam Rockwell, in a revival of Sam Shepard’s Fool For Love.
She’s repped by ICM Partners and Schreck, Rose.
