Best Actor Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne tops the list of prospects to play Newt Scamander in the Harry Potter spinoff trilogy Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them from author J.K. Rowling, who is making her screenwriting debut on the project. David Yates is directing the Warner Bros. pic slated to open November 18, 2016. Redmayne just finished work on The Danish Girl for director Tom Hooper and also played the villain in Warners’ Jupiter Ascending. Other actors are under consideration but Redmayne reportedly is the frontrunner, though he has not seen a finished script. Warner Bros had no comment on the news, first reported by Variety.

Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is in negotiations to helm Power Rangers, the reboot of the 1990s-spawned action franchise that Saban Brands is putting together at Lionsgate for a July 22, 2016 release.
