Archie Panjabi, Ciaran Hinds Trek To ‘Shetland’ For BBC Drama’s Third Season

shetlandBased on the crime novels by Ann Cleeves, BBC One drama Shetland is adding a trio of new stars to its roster. Game Of ThronesCiaran Hinds, The Good Wife‘s exiting Archie Panjabi and The Hour‘s Anna Chancellor are all boarding for the third season which is currently shooting in Scotland.

ciaran hinds game of thronesMade by ITV Studios for BBC Scotland, Shetland first aired as a two-part drama in 2013 and was expanded to six episodes for its second season which ran last year. Returning star Douglas Henshall plays detective Jimmy Perez as he investigates murders on the eponymous Scottish archipelago. Other returning cast includes Alison O’Donnell, Steven Robertson, Julie Graham and Mark Bonnar.

The third season will focus on the disappearance of a young man on a ferry crossing from Aberdeen to Lerwick. Suspecting foul play, Perez and his team begin an investigation which has far-reaching consequences for them all and the local community.

Shetland currently airs on some PBS stations in the U.S. It’s written by Gaby Chiappe (Vera, The Paradise), Robert Murphy (DCI Banks) and David Kane (Prime Suspect); directors are Thaddeus O’Sullivan (Call The Midwife) and Jan Matthys (In Flanders Field). Elaine Collins is exec producing for ITV Studios and Christopher Aird for BBC Scotland.

Panjabi, who has also appeared on BBC Two’s The Fall, is leaving The Good Wife at the end of the current season and has a development/holding deal with 20th Century Fox TV to headline a drama pilot for the studio for fall 2015 consideration.

James Cosmo (Case Histories), Saskia Reeves (Wolf Hall), Sara Vickers (Sunshine On Leith), Jack Greenlees (Stonemouth), Jamie Michie (Game Of Thrones), Mark Cox (Still Game), Kate Donnelly (Still Game) and Andrew Rothney (Outlander), have also signed up for Shetland‘s season 3.
