BAFTA TV Award Nominations: ‘Happy Valley’, ‘The Missing’ Among Leaders

BAFTA Award Winners 2015Nominations for the 2015 BAFTA TV Awards were announced this morning by The Riot Club‘s Freddie Fox and Sherlock‘s Amanda Abbington at the org’s London headquarters. Abbington’s co-star Benedict Cumberbatch scored his third nomination in a row for playing the titular detective, although the series itself did not receive a nod. The BBC nevertheless had a big morning, taking each of the nominees in the Single Drama and Drama Series categories. In the latter are Happy Valley, Line Of Duty, The Missing and Peaky Blinders. Happy Valley, Line Of Duty and The Missing led the day with three nominations each, alongside single drama Marvellous. BBC One’s The Voice also took its first-ever nomination for Entertainment Programme.

While Broadchurch was not eligible this year, the drama’s Olivia Colman nabbed her fourth mention in a row — for comedy — this time in BBC Two’s Rev. Also recognized for comedy is Hugh Bonneville in the BBC’s W1A, a follow-up to its Olympics satire Twenty Twelve. However, Bonneville’s other show, Downton Abbey, was completely shut out of the races today, as was BBC Two’s The Fall with many having expected Fifty Shades Of Grey‘s Jamie Dornan to pick up a mention for his role as serial killer Paul Spector.

In the International category are The Good Wife, True Detective, House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. This is the second nomination in a row for House Of Cards after BAFTA changed the regs last year to allow non-linear broadcasters into the mix. Below is the full list of nominees. The awards ceremony will be held on May 10 in London.
