Daniel Craig Knee Surgery Won’t Delay ‘Spectre’ Filming, Producer Says

Daniel Craig has undergone knee surgery to repair an injury caused while filming the latest James Bond pic Spectre. A rep for Eon Productions described as “minor” the operation, which Craig had this Easter weekend during a break from filming. “During a scheduled break, Daniel Craig had arthroscopic surgery to repair his knee injury,” said an Eon statement. “He will rejoin production on April 22nd at Pinewood.” Filming on Spectre is not believed to have been affected thus far.

Spectre, the 24th James Bond title produced by Eon, has been hit by several issues during its lengthy shoot. The production was affected by the Sony hack when an early draft of the script was leaked online. Subsequent reports indicated that the leaked draft was still very much a work in progress, with extensive rewrites believed to have taken place since.

News of Craig’sinjury first surfaced in February when the 46-year-old 007 actor reportedly hurt himself while filming a fight scene. Production execs at the time moved to deny claims the incident would affect production or, more importantly, the film’s release date November 6.

The globetrotting production, which has shot at Pinewood, across Europe, Morocco and Mexico, also reportedly ran into roadblocks in Rome when a request to film in the city’s largest cemetery was turned down by monks while officials also nixed a scene set to shoot in the Eternal City’s Quattro Fontane.

Skyfall director Sam Mendes is behind the camera again for Spectre, with Craig marking his fourth appearance as the iconic British secret agent. Joining Craig are Ralph Fiennes as M, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny and Ben Whishaw as Q, along with new cast members including Christoph Waltz, rumoured to be playing Bond nemesis Blofeld, Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux. Spectre is produced by Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, from a script by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade.
