Just a few days before A.D. The Bible Continues series has its Easter Sunday debut on NBC, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s The Dovekeepers (0.9/3) wrapped its two-night run on CBS on Wednesday. Having started off soft, the two-hour conclusion to the siege of Masada saga was down 10% in adults 18-49 on its second night to end as the night’s lowest-rated show among the The Big 4.Watched by 8.98 million Tuesday night after a massive 16.60 million audience for lead-in NCIS, Dovekeepers also swooped down 28% among total viewers to 6.40 million last night.

It was all Burnett on CBS on Wednesday as Dovekeepers was preceded by his Survivor (2.1/8) at 8 PM. With 9.47 million viewers, the veteran reality series was the most watched show of the night. However, it did not deliver the lead-in numbers of NCIS and, among the key demo, it slipped 9% form last week. That’s a series low for a regularly scheduled episode of the show, but as Survivor often sees changes in later ratings, don’t dwell too much on that number now. Overall, CBS went from first place among the Big 4 in the demo and viewership last week to a 1.3/4 fourth-place finish Wednesday among 18-49s and a third-place audience of 7.422 million.

With a 1.9/7 rating, ABC took the top spot in 18-49 last night in no small part due to the result of Modern Family (2.9/10). While even with last week’s numbers, the 9 PM comedy was easily the top-rated show of the night again. Add to ABC’s total that the night’s second-highest rated Black-ish (2.4/8). The 9:30 PM freshman saw a 14% rise in the demo over last week. As usual, comedies The Middle (1.7/7) and The Goldbergs (1.9/7) started ABC’s Wednesday. It wasn’t as good a night for them as it was for black-ish with the former down 11% and the latter down 10% from their March 25 shows. Ending the night, Nashville (1.3/4) slipped 7% from its last original of March 4.

Kelly Clarkson American Idol April 1Over on Fox, former winner Kelly Clarkson returned to the American Idol (1.7/6) stage that started it all for her to perform and mentor the Season 14 Final 9 last night. Of course, that 9 became 8 later as even though there was a save, an elimination took place on the 2-hour show. There was no elimination ratingswise as Idol matched its season low result of last week. But, Idol being Idol, we may see an adjustment in the later ratings. In terms of total viewers, Idol’s audience of 8.37 million gave Fox the No. #1 spot in that category.

Unlike Fox’s Idol demo rating, things went down on The CW last night. Arrow (0.8/3) fell 20% from its March 25 show while Supernatural (0.6/2) tumbled 14% to hit a series low in preliminary numbers.

For NBC, Wednesday was a mixed bag with The Mysteries of Laura (1.0/4) tied with last week while Law & Order: SVU (1.5/5) was up a nice 15% and Chicago P.D. (1.6/5) remained basically steady with a 7% rise.
