‘Happyish’ Gets Preview After ‘Shameless’ Finale On Showtime

Showtime will sneak the pilot for its new comedy Happyish on Sunday, April 5, following the season finale of hit dramedy Shameless. The move should provide solid sampling for the new series as Shameless is one of the premium cabler’s highest-rated series and has a similar offbeat sensibility as the newcomer. Showtime is expected also to put the Happyish pilot on multiple digital platforms ahead of its premiere for additional sampling, something the network does with all of its new shows.

The post-Shameless slot is open next week because House Of Lies is wrapping its fourth season this Sunday. On April 12, veteran Nurse Jackie is Showtime logocoming back for its final season. The dark comedy will hold down the Showtime original fort by itself for two weeks until Happyish joins it on April 26 for its official premiere, re-airing the pilot. Because Happyish‘s order is for 10 episodes and Nurse Jackie‘s is for 12, the two comedies’ air schedules were synched up in a way so they end their seasons on the same night. They will be joined by horror drama Penny Dreadful on May 3 for two hours of original programming on Sunday night.

Happyish, starring Steve Coogan, Kathryn Hahn and Bradley Whitford, is a comedic, soul-searching examination of our pursuit of happiness and why it continues to be so elusive. The series is created, written and executive produced by Shalom Auslander. Ken Kwapis executive produces and directed the pilot. Kwapis’ producing partner Alexandra Beattie serves as co-executive producer under their In Cahoots banner.
