Joel Edgerton’s Directing Debut Gets A Title

The Blumhouse film had that been known around town as Weirdo now has an official title. STX Entertainment said today that Joel Edgerton’s directorial debut is called The Gift. Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. reported exclusively in January that Jason Bateman will star in the psychological thriller, which is set for a July 31 release.

Bateman and Rebecca Hall play Simon and Robin, a husband and wife who are out to reinvigorate their relationship with a fresh beginning in a new town. But their lives are disrupted by a chance encounter with a “friend” (Edgerton) from Simon’s past who holds a horrifying secret about him, sending their world into a tailspin. Rebecca Yeldham is co-producing with Jason Blum at Blumhouse.
