Sports Emmy Nominations: ESPN And NBC Lap The Field
ESPN and NBC left the competition in their dust as the 36th annual Sports Emmy nominations were announced today, both scoring more than twice as many as any other network. ESPN leads the league again, as it did last year, scooping 37 noms to NBC’s Olympics-fueled 33. MLB Network is third with 16, followed by ESPN 2 (15) and Fox (14). ESPN also can claim another victory as its former Executive Chairman George Bodenheimer, who hung ’em up last year after 31 years at the Worldwide Leader, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
NBC’s coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympics clobbered the competition with 15 noms, doubling up all other programs. ESPN’s SportsCenter, ESPN 2’s E: 60 and Fox Sports Live tied for second with seven apiece.
