Russo Brothers Officially Taking Over ‘Avengers’ Movies

Captain America: The Winter Soldier duo Joe and Anthony Russo have closed a deal with Marvel to take over Avengers franchise from Joss Whedon. Deadline has confirmed it’s a done deal. The Russos will be directing Avengers: Infinity War parts 1 and 2. Infinity War Part 1 is scheduled for release May 4, 2018, with part two hitting theaters on May 3, 2019.

This has been a poorly kept secret for a long time. We mentioned it several times, including a few weeks back when the Russo Brothers signed their first-look deal with Sony, and also when they were in the center of a deal to do another Ghostbusters film that was hatched by Mission: Impossible 5 scribe Drew Pearce and involves the Russos and Channing Tatum. The Russos will have a very busy schedule for the next several years; they are producing a multi-camera comedy pilot for NBC from Aseem Batra. The big question is whether they’ll have time to do that Ghostbusters spinoff.
