Betty Buckley, Lorna Luft Join ‘Follies’ For Stephen Sondheim’s Latest London Birthday Party

Possibly marking the end of Stephen Sondheim‘s 80th-birthday celebrations comes word of the Royal Albert Hall’s April 28 Follies:HBO's "Getting On" - Los Angeles Premiere In Concert honoring the composer-lyricist’s 85th birthday on March 22 (which, in one of those weird God jokes only the deity can understand, also is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s birthday, though Lord Lloyd Webber apparently isn’t getting a Royal Albert Hall birthday party, perhaps because they had no more holes to fill this season). Concert versions of the astonishing 1971 Follies have become catnip to singers and actors from the worlds of Broadway and opera. This one, directed by Craig Revel Horwood (Strictly Come Dancing) with choreography by Andrew Wright and musical direction by Gareth Valentin, has an all-star cast backed by the City Of London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tony-winner Betty Buckley (Carlotta Campion), Lorna Luft (Hattie Walker), Charlotte Page (Heidi Schiller), Peter Polycarpou (Buddy Plummer), Amy Ellen Richardson (Young Sally) and Jos Slovickhve (Young Buddy) have signed on with the previously announced Christine Baranski (Phyllis Stone), Ruthie Henshall (Sally Plummer), Stefanie Powers (Solange Lafitte), Alexander Hanson (Ben Stone), Alistair Brammer (Young Ben), Anita Dobson (Stella Deems), Anita Harris (Emilie Whitman), Roy Hudd (Theodore Whitman), Laura Pitt-Pulford (Young Phyllis) and Russell Watson (Roscoe).

The concert is produced by SilverBlue Entertainment, in association with Elliot Davis, and will be performed twice.
