‘Self/Less’ Premiere Date Now July 10; Orion Nabs 2014 SXSW Winner ‘Fort Tilden’ – Film Briefs

Focus Features has shifted the date of its sci-fi thriller Self/Less from July 31 to July 10. The Tarsem Singh-directed pic sees a megarich and self-involved architect (Ben Kingsley) who’s dying of cancer undergo a procedure that puts him in the body of a healthy younger man (Ryan Reynolds). Bad things happen after that. The wide release will now go up against fellow wide openers Universal’s spinoff The Minions and New Line’s horror pic The Gallows as well as Relativity’s Sundance comedy pickup The Bronze. Orion Releasing has acquired U.S. and Latin American distribution deal for Fort Tilden, the comedy that premiered at the 2014 SXSW. An August 2015 release in theaters and VOD is planned. Written and directed by Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, the pic stars Bridey Elliott and Clare McNulty who play two slacker Brooklynites experiencing mishap after mishap on a journey to the beach. Bliss and Rogers now write on Netflix’s upcoming series Wet Hot American Summer.

Shiloh Fernandez and Rossif Sutherland have joined the cast of Rob Connolly’s suspense thriller Backcountry now shooting in Ontario. Joel Kinnaman stars as a lonely divorced dad who tries to bond with his sons when his ex-wife Karen (Rachelle LeFevre) leaves them with him to go on vacation. They get stranded in a deserted cabin in the middle of a snowstorm and must rely on each other in order to survive. Kyle Mann wrote the script.

Gotham Chopra, director of the Showtime documentary Kobe Bryant’s Muse and ESPN’s 30 For 30 docu The Little Master, has pacted with Muse producer Dirty Robber to make TV and digital content focusing on sports, politics, music and branded content. Chopra directed and produced the 2012 documentary Decoding Deepak, about his father. In 2013, the Dirty Robber-produced short Buzkashi Boys was nominated for a Live Action Short Film Oscar.
