E! Puts ‘Fashion Police’ On Hiatus Until September

After the high-profile exits of co-hosts Kathy Griffin last week and Kelly Osbourne last month, E! has decided to put its snarkfest Fashion Police on hiatus until the fall. Here’s the NBCUniversal-owned network’s statement:

E!’s comedy series Fashion Police is going on hiatus and will return in September.  We look forward to taking this opportunity to refresh the show before the next awards season. Our talented co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, along with Executive Producer Melissa Rivers, will continue their roles as we evolve the show into its next chapter for the legions of Fashion Police fans around the world.

In confirming Griffin’s March 14 exit after seven episodes, E! said it was bringing Fashion Police back on March 30. With that plan scrapped, the cable net turns to exactly how it is “taking this opportunity to refresh the show.” Down to a pair of co-hosts and with some viewers becoming impatient, the ratings-challenged fashionista smackdown show has plenty of work to do. After the death of series matriarch Joan Rivers in September, E! first put Fashion Police on a two-week hiatus then said it would continue the valuable franchise without her. A couple of months later, Griffin was reported to be in talks to take over as co-host, and she sealed the gig on December 1, with celebrity stylist Goreski also signing up.

The show survived the Golden Globes, but the Oscars proved the beginning of the end of that iteration. Rancic made a comment that Zendaya Coleman’s dreadlocks probably smelled like “patchouli or weed,” and Osbourne hit the bricks days later. Griffin’s exit put further pressure on E! brass. Now we wait to see what’s next.
