Studio Canal Takes Over All Distribution Of Tandem Content, To Increase Production

Euro major Studio Canal has announced that it will now handle the TV sales and marketing for all of the studio’s television production companies, including any output created by German-based Tandem Productions. Tandem’s former sales and marketing team will now operate under the Studio Canal banner and report to Rodolphe Buet, president of international marketing and distribution.

Studio Canal took a majority stake in Rola Bauer’s Tandem in 2012. Its first one-hour series pan-Euro procedural was Crossing Lines. The series has just started production on its third season, with new leading actors Goran Visnjic, Elizabeth Mitchell joining the returning Donald Sutherland. The new season is executive produced by Frank Spotnitz and Rola Bauer.

Tandem’s Spotless, an original one hour series for CANAL+, has recently completed production of its first 10 episode season on location in London, and will premiere March 16th on the French pay TV giant. Development for the second season of Spotless is underway.

Expansion into premium content is a strategic priority for Canal + and Studio Canal. With its film operations enjoying great success under the leadership of Studio Canal CEO Olivier Courson- the company recently enjoyed its biggest ever hit with the $240 million worldwide-grossing Paddington– the company also wants to establish itself as a market leader in high-end scripted fare, particularly given that Canal + is facing increasing competition for sports rights from the likes of Qatar-owned BeIN Sports.
