‘Run All Night’: Making Of The Soundtrack With Tom Holkenborg, AKA Junkie XL

Tom Holkenborg’s film scores make a lot more sense when you remember that long before he worked in movies, the Dutch composer performed in dance clubs and arenas as Junkie XL. His compositions often feel like expanded versions of tunes first whipped up with a synthesizer and drum machine, then translated for an orchestra (something he has in common with Daft Punk). Case in point, his latest score for the Liam Neeson/Ed Harris revenge thriller Run All Night. In conjunction with the film’s release this weekend, WaterTower Music has released “Run All Night – Making Of The Soundtrack” profiling Holkenborg and his compositional style. “I thought it was much more interesting to look at this movie from an emotional point of view instead of from an actioner point of view,” he says about his leitmotifs in the video.
