Alano Miller Joins WGN America’s ‘Underground’; Alex Meneses In NBC’s ‘Telenovela’

Alano Miller has landed a lead role in WGN America’s straight-to-series drama Underground. From Sony Pictures TV and Tribune Studios, Underground follows a group of slaves who plan a daring escape from a Georgia plantation to cross 600 miles to freedom, aided along the way by a secret abolitionist couple running a station on the Underground Railroad, as they evade those tasked with bringing them back, dead or alive. Miller will play Cato, a striking, cunning and oddly charismatic slave on the plantation who is despised and feared by the other slaves. Abrams Artists Agency-repped Miller currently recurs on Jane The Virgin. Akiva Goldsman executive produces Underground with Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures and creators, Misha Green and Joe Pokaski.

Alex Meneses (Selena) has booked the final series regular role opposite Eva Longoria in NBC’s 13-episode single-camera comedyTelenovela, starring and executive produced by Eva Longoria. Based on an idea by Longoria and directed by Steve Pink, Telenovela stars Longoria as popular diva Ana Maria, star of Latin America’s most beloved telenovela, who strives to stay on top in a world where the drama on-camera is nothing compared to the drama off-camera. Menese will play Isabella, an aging but beautiful actress trying to pass for 28. She’s bitter about getting older and blames Ana (Longoria) for the fact that she is no longer a leading lady. Isabella will do whatever it takes to claw her way back into the spotlight. Meneses is repped by Pakula/King & Associates and Cindy Ambers at Artwork Entertainment.
