Melanie Griffith To Star In ABC Comedy Pilot About Family With Genius Kids

Brainy BunchMelanie Griffith is set to co-star in ABC’s untitled Molyneux comedy pilot (formerly The Brainy Bunch), from Imagine TV and 20th TV. The single-camera project, written/executive produced by Wendy & Lizzie Molyneux and directed by Jamie Travis, is inspired by the book by Kip and Mona Lisa Harding. Through a combination of genetics and dynamic home schooling, Kip and Mona Lisa Mitchell find themselves raising extraordinarily intelligent kids. Griffith will play Mona Lisa’s mom Celeste, a former pageant queen who has graciously invited her daughter’s family to live with her in Orange County. Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo executive produce.

This would mark Griffith’s first series regular gig in a decade. The Oscar-nominated actress, repped by Innovative Artists, Untitled Entertainment and attorney George Hayum, previously worked with 20th TV in 2012 when she did an arc on the studio’s Fox comedy Raising Hope. She recently recurred on CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 and appeared in the Saturday Night Live episode hosted by her daughter, Fifty Shades Of Grey’s Dakota Johnson.
