Relativity Lands Max Yaney & Luke Goltz’s ’80s Smuggling Tale Spec ‘Smoke’

EXCLUSIVE: Relativity has landed Smoke, a spec script by new writers Max Yaney & Luke Goltz. Andrew Panay is producing. Relativity moved while others circled and they are already looking for directors.

It’s set in the Miami Vice¬†1980s era in South Beach. Spec tells the true story of Joey Ippolito, who was one of the world’s top speedboat racers. No one in the South Beach socialite crowd knew, however, that he was also running one of the biggest cocaine smuggling operations out of the U.S.¬†Relativity’s Daniel Herther, Matt Alvarez and Robbie Brenner will oversee it. Adam Blum brought it for Panay Films, where he is senior veep. He will shepherd it.
