Melanie Kannokada Joins ‘Code Black’; Andrea Anders In ‘How We Live’

Melanie Kannokada has joined the cast of CBS drama pilot Code Black, a medical drama written by Intelligence creator Michael Seitzman and directed by David Semel. Based on Ryan McGarry’s feature documentary of the same name, the drama series — like the docu — is set in the busiest and most notorious ER in the nation, LA County Hospital, where the extraordinary staff confronts a broken system in order to protect their ideals and the patients who need them the most. Kannokada, repped by Richard Fisher at Abrams Artists and McKeon/Myones Entertainment, will play Malaya, a doctor who is starting her residency. Kannokada guest stars in an arc in HBO’s upcoming series The Brink.

Andrea Anders (Joey) has landed a regular role in NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot How We Live, written/executive produced by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley (Happy Endings) and executive produced by David Janollari. Inspired by Cragg and Bradley’s personal observations of their own family lives, the project centers on Russell, a blogger, and his wife Holly who move to the suburbs where he begins writing about marriage and the family lives of his suburban friends and neighbors, in the style of an anthropologist who has stumbled on an undiscovered tribe. Anders will play Natalie, a stay-at-home mom who is Holly’s best friend.
