Oscars: ‘Black-ish’ Movie Dances, ‘The Goldbergs’ Charlie Sheen Episode, ‘HTGAWM’ Finale, ‘Once’ & ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Returns, ‘Secrets’ Among ABC Promos

The Academy Awards draw the biggest TV audience for an entertainment program, and ABC used the telecast to promote a number of its series.

The most elaborate trailer was for freshman comedy black-ish, which filmed a special promo that pays tribute to iconic movie dances. Airing deep into the telecast, it features series co-star, 10-year-old Miles Brown, a real-life professional dancer, performing moves from such films as Footloose, West Side Story, Flashdance and Fred Astaire’s Royal Wedding (walls, ceiling dancing and all).

Also showcased with an Oscar promo was the upcoming Ferris Bueller-themed episode of comedy The Goldbergs, in which Charlie Sheen reprises his role from the cult movie.

In another movie/Oscar tie-in, ABC teased the upcoming season finale of freshman drama How To Get Away With Murder, toplined by two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis.

Also keeping with the celebrity theme of the Oscars was the “Paparazzi” promo for new drama Secrets & Lies, which showcases its movie star leading duo of Ryan Phillippe and Juliette Lewis.

ABC also used the Oscars to tease the return of dramas Once Upon A Time and Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the latest Apple-themed episode of Modern Family.

The Once promo suggests that Emma (Jennifer Morrison) may be going to the dark side.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. teaser features the conflicted Skye (Chloe Bennet) revealing that she may not be human.

Here is the promo for the Modern Family episode filmed entirely on Apple devices.
