Randy Phillips To Oversee Music Services For UK Radio Power

One of the best known execs in live entertainment, former AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips will be based in LA and oversee U.S. affairs and worldwide content for Global Entertainment. The arm of UK based radio power Global, The Media And Entertainment Group will offer so-called 360-degree music services including publishing, management, promotion, sponsorships, live concerts and tours.

“This is a defining moment for Global as we open our first office in the U.S. and create a new type of content company,” Global founder Ashley Tabor says. “Our goal is to redefine the possibilities for a 21st century music and entertainment company and I am thrilled to have Randy and the team on board.”

In his 13 years at AEG Live, Phillips’ oversaw tours by performers including Justin Timberlake, Bon Jovi, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez, and Prince. He also produced movies with Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, and managed Rod Stewart, Toni Braxton, Lionel Richie and Usher.

But Phillips surprisingly left in late 2013 a year after he signed a new five-year contract. The departure came shortly after a jury found AEG not guilty in the wrongful death suit filed by the family of Michael Jackson. AEG Live’s parent, Anschutz Entertainment Group, put itself on the block in September 2012 — but ended the auction process in March 2013. It said at the time that billionaire owner Philip Anschutz “will resume a more active role” especially with its “world-wide strategy and operations.”
