David Cross & Cast Discuss The Hilarity In ‘Hits’ — Hot Behind The Scenes Clip

EXCLUSIVE: David Cross’ feature comedy directorial Hits, which premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, hit theaters this weekend in 50 cities in a unique pay-what-you-want admission distribution model spearheaded by BitTorrent and Honora Pictures.  In addition, for two weeks only, consumers can download a pay-what-you-want digital copy of Hits as a BitTorrent Bundle (after that period the cost is  $8).  Cross was fascinated by the unique means to bring his first film to his core fan base via BitTorrent.  In this exclusive clip, Cross and his cast take us behind the scenes in terms of how he assembled the film and cultivated comedy from his improv-razor sharp ensemble.  The film was shot near Cross’ summer home in the Catskills, which provided as a prime local for a 20-day indie shoot.  And for anyone who loved Mr. Show, they’ll find all the hysterical earmarks of Cross’ humor from his arrest of hypocritical political groups to the irony of fame.  Hits centers around an OCD-like Liberty, NY municipal worker Dave Stuben (Veep’s Matt Walsh) whose Town Hall rants spur a viral sensation.  Dave ultimately gets the attention of Donovan, a Brooklyn grass-roots leader (James Adomian) who joins the disgruntled man in his attack on the governing status quo.  It turns out Donovan is not alone in his cause to champion Dave as protesters descend upon the small town. Meanwhile Dave’s daughter Katelyn (Meredith Hagner) wants to be a famous pop star at all costs.   Hits is playing this week at Sundance Cinemas at 8000 Sunset Blvd. The film also stars David Koechner, Michael Cera, Amy Sedaris, Julia Stiles and Erinn Hayes.
