Charlie McDowell To Direct HBO’s Sarah Silverman Pilot, Jeremy Garelick To Helm Fox’s ‘Detour’

Charlie McDowell, coming off a strong feature directorial debut with indie romantic comedy The One I Love, will make his TV helming debut with HBO’s untitled Sarah Silverman comedy pilot. Written by Secret Diary Of A Call Girl creator Lucy Prebble, the project is described as a comic look at a pathologically honest woman having a modern midlife crisis. Prebble and Silverman executive produce with Ash Atalla, Amy Zvi and Dan Hine. The One I Love starring Elizabeth Moss and Mark Duplass debuted at Sundance and sold right away to Radius/TWC. Next up for the director, repped by ICM Partners, MGMT Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson, is The Discovery, which he co-wrote with Justin Lader. Alex Orlovsky and Hunter Gray will produce the film under their production company, Verisimilitude.

The Wedding Ringer director/co-writer Jeremy Garelick also is making a TV directing debut with Fox’s single-camera comedy pilot Detour, from 20th Century Fox TV. Written by Psych creator Steve Franks inspired by the real-life story of Weezer lead singer Rivers Cuomo, the project centers on a rock star who made the unexpected choice at age 30 to quit his band and go back to college. Franks, Cuomo, Dan Field, Chris Henze and Willie Mercer executive produce. Garelick, repped by UTA and attorney Todd Rubenstein, started as an assistant to director Joel Schumacher and served as a second unit director and associate producer on Schumacher’s Veronica Guerin before co-writing The Golden Tux and The Break-Up. He also worked on The Hangover script.
