New Brian Williams Claims Under Microscope As Petition Launched To Bring Him Back

A petition has been launched on to reinstate Brian Williams as anchor of NBC Nightly News. is where people went in droves to sign the petition telling to pull its Super Bowl ad making light of puppy mills; the web site also has been a key player in other TV controversies.

“Though Brian Williams was wrong in recounting his helicopter being shot down in Iraq, NBC executives are not only punishing Brian Williams, they are also punishing millions of Americans,” says the petition to reinstate Williams.

NBC this week slapped Williams with a six-month suspension over claims he made that a military helicopter in which he was flying in 2003 was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. Williams is also under fire for other claims he’s made over the years — most recently focus has turned to statements he made about fraternizing with the Navy SEAL team that killed Osama bin Laden, including flying on their helicopter several times. “Now, people might be hearing about SEAL Team 6,” Williams said on Nightly News on May 3, 2011.  “I happen to have the great honor of flying into Baghdad with them at the start of the war.”

It’s been widely speculated NBC suspended Williams for six months so as to put the issue on ice until after its stalled merger with Time Warner is completed. In the meantime, it’s presumed NBC execs will be closely watching the ratings on its evening newscast, to see how well they hold up with Lester Holt in the anchor chair.

The petition to bring back Williams says, “Until Brian Williams is reinstated as NBC Nightly News anchor, we need to boycott all NBC news so they know that his presence is missed.”

So far, it has 10 signatures.
