Alan Turing’s Family Speaks For First Time About Best Picture Nom ‘Imitation Game’

EXCLUSIVE: At the center of the multi-Oscar nominated The Imitation Game is the story of Alan Turing, the mathematical genius whose work helped hasten the end of World War II and break the once-thought-unbreakable Enigma code of the Nazis. His own personal life was another matter as he was shockingly persecuted later for being a gay man. It has all been brought to life in the film directed by Morten Tyldum, an Oscar and DGA nominee, and written by Graham Moore, who won the USC Scripter Award last weekend and is up for Oscar, WGA and BAFTA honors.

Recently and for the first time, Turing family members have spoken out about the film, its accuracy and the power of star Benedict Cumberbatch’s lead performance — one that has also brought him Oscar and BAFTA nominations. Late last month, U.S. Ambassador Matthew Barzun hosted a screening of the film for the family at the U.S. Embassy in London. Among those who attended were Dermot Turing (Alan’s nephew), Rachel Barnes (great niece), Thomas Barnes (great great nephew) and Ruth Bourne, a veteran of Bletchley Park where the breakthroughs took place during WWII.
