‘Better Call Saul’ Review: Dominic Patten Speed Dials ‘Breaking Bad’ Prequel

With Breaking Bad having ended in September 2013, its been awhile since we last saw Saul Goodman. But the great sleazeball strip-mall legal whiz is finally back with his own AMC series – and, as my video review above makes very clear, Better Call Saul was well worth the wait.

Debuting on February 8 at 10 PM right after the midseason return of The Walking Dead (aka prime TV real estate deluxe), Better Call Saul is a BB prequel of a sorts that more than stands up to the infamous tales of Walter White. With glimpses of Saul’s post-BB life, creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould’s main focus from the start is to take us to the life of the fast-talking, morally slippery attorney before he became the Saul we all grew to know. And, with Bob Odenkirk in the driver’s seat as the man who will be Saul, it is quite the ride. The two-night premiere of Better Call Saul continues on February 9 before settling into its regular Monday slot. AMC is feeling pretty good about this baby: The network already gave it a second season back in July.
