The CW is betting heavily on genre fare with its early pilot picks. The network has given the green light to supernatural drama Dead People, from Californication creator Tom Kapinos and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. It joins pilots Tales From The Darkside, a remake of the 1980s horror/fantasy/thriller anthology series, and Cordon, about the aftermath of a deadly epidemic.
Written/executive produced by Kapinos, Dead People centers on a down-on-his-luck, semi-alcoholic but roguishly charming cab driver. After a near-death experience, he suddenly has the ability to interact with ghosts, including his late ex-wife who he has never gotten over. Warner Bros TV is producing with studio-based Bad Robot and Kapinos’ Aggressive Mediocrity. The exec producer credits for Bad Robot are TBD.
In addition to Dead People, Kapinos also has DC/WBTV Lucifer drama, which has been awaiting a pilot order at Fox.
