Marshawn Lynch Breaks Super Bowl Silence For Conan O’Brien

Press covering the Super Bowl in Phoenix: Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has got lots to say — he’s just not interested in talking to you. He’s prattled happily to Conan O’Brien, as he and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski played Mortal Kombat X on Conan’s TBS late-night show last night.

NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks Team Media AvailabilityAt Tuesday’s Super Bowl XLIX news conference, Lynch answered every question reporters lobbed his way with some iteration of, “I’m just here so I won’t get fined,” for nearly five minutes, after which he left. On Wednesday, he did same, only this time he gave varying interpretations of, “You know why I’m here.” The NFL reportedly had threatened to fine Lynch $500,000 if he skipped the Super Bowl walk-up media day.

Halftime performer Katy Perry plagiarized Lynch at her news conference yesterday, responding to a question as to which player she had her eye on with, “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.”

This morning NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said at his State of the NFL speech that talking to the media during Super Bowl week “may not be on the top” of Lynch’s list of thing he’d like to do, “but everyone else is doing their part, because it’s our obligation,” adding, “it comes with the territory and with the privilege of playing in the Super Bowl.”
