Sam Waterston To Play Prospero In Central Park; Will Katherine W. Play Miranda?

Probably not, but how cool would it be for the recently departed The Newsroom‘s recently-deceased Charlie Skinner to play magician-dad to his real-life daughter and Inherent Vice star playing his love-struck spawn in the Shakespeare valedictory this summer in Central Park?

Katherine WaterstonSam Waterston, long identified with the New York Shakespeare Festival and most recently King Lear in a production there, will play Prospero this summer in The Tempest, the first of two free Shakespeare In The Park presentations at the Delacorte Theater. Michael Greif will direct the show, which is slated to begin performances May 27 and run through July 5.

That will be followed by Cymbeline, staged by another Delacorte regular, Daniel Sullivan. The late romance will run from July 27 through August 23. Sullivan most recently directed another Lear, this one starring John Lithgow in the title role, last summer in the park.
