Focus World Cuffs ‘Cop Car’; ARC Bites ‘Walking Deceased’; Cinedigm Inks With Brand Inc

Focus World has picked up US and U.K. rights to the Kevin Bacon starrer Cop Car at Sundance. Jon Watts directed the film about two 10-year-old boys attempt to navigate the back roads behind the wheel of a seemingly abandoned police car that they have no clue how to operate. Things get worse when the corrupt small-town sheriff aims to get his car back at all costs. James Freedson-Jackson, Hays Wellford, Shea Whigham and Camryn Manheim also star in the pic written by Watts and Christopher D. Ford. Focus World plans a day-and-date theatrical and VOD release but has not yet set a date.

The Walking DeceasedARC Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to the horror spoof The Walking Deceased and set a March 20 release date. Directed by Scott Dow and written by Tim Ogletree, the film stars Dave Sheridan, Joey Oglesby and Tim Ogletree. It follows a group of survivors from all walks of the apocalypse who leave their once-safe mall hideout in search of a rumored refuge untouched by the zombie virus that has ravaged humanity. Things don’t go well. “Dave Sheridan and the filmmakers created this ingenious film for the genre fans, and we’re thrilled to bring it to them on the big screen as well as the various home entertainment channels,” ARC Head of Acquisitions Scott Moesta said.

Cinedigm Corp has signed a 12-picture deal with Brand Inc. Entertainment to distribute the company’s family-friendly films in North America. Christopher Barish and Jim Valdez’s Brand has produced three films that will be released this year: Zoey To The Max, starring Amy Smart and Grant Bowler; Little Loopers, with Rob Morrow and Natalie Imbruglia; and Ghost Squad, starring Kevin Nealon. “I am excited to work with Chris and Jim, who have already shown great creative instincts and access to high-profile casts,” said Cinedigm President Bill Sondheim. “Their broad industry relationships ensure a strong and consistent flow of new projects in genres that perform well with our retail and VOD partners, as well as with our emerging over-the-top channels.”
