Richard Shepard To Direct Fox Drama Pilot ‘Rosewood’

Fox continues to be swift in getting its pilots ready for production, setting a director on another drama that was greenlighted less than a week ago. Richard Shepard will direct Rosewood, a close-ended procedural written/executive produced by Todd Harthan (Psych). It centers on the brilliant Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr., the top private pathologist in Miami. As owner of one of the most sophisticated, state-of-the-art independent labs in the country, he finds the secrets in bodies that others usually miss. Despite being constantly surrounded by death, Rosewood is obsessed with life and savors every moment. Also executive producing are Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen for 20th Century Fox TV.

WME-repped Shepard directed the pilots for Ugly Betty, which earned him an Emmy Award, Criminal Minds, Ringer and Golden Boy. Under his deal at 20th TV, which led to the Rosewood gig, Shepard also served as director/executive producer on Fox 21 TV Studios’ WGN America drama Salem.

Seasoned TV directors seem to be in demand vs. feature helmers early in the pilot staffing season. Fox’s high-profile Minority Report pilot recently hired Mark Mylod, who has helmed the pilots for Showtime’s The Affair and Shameless and ABC’s Once Upon A Time.
