Fox Orders Comedy Pilot Starring John Stamos, Krista Vernoff/John Wells Drama

Fox has ordered two more pilots — an untitled single-camera comedy starring John Stamos, from former The Office head writer Danny Chun and Galavant creator Dan Fogelman, and Studio City, an hourlong drama/dramedy from former Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Krista Vernoff and John Wells.

Both projects had put pilot commitments and both hail from outside studios — ABC Studios and Warner Bros. TV, respectively — bringing the number of Fox pilot orders to outside suppliers to three, including Universal TV’s 48 Hours ‘Til Monday, in the network’s first season aligned with its sister studio 20th TV.

Stamos is executive producing through his St. Amos banner, along with Fogelman, exec producing through his ABC Studios-based Rhode Island Ave Prods., and Chun, who also has been under an overall deal at ABC Studios.

John Wells 5vernoffSet in present-day Studio City, CA, Studio City is a family dramedy described as “The O.C. meets Shameless.” Inspired by Vernoff’s real-life experience growing up as the daughter of a drug dealer to the stars, the project tells the story of a young singer’s path to stardom, as she comes of age living with her songwriter father — who turns out to be a drug dealer to the stars. Vernoff and Wells executive produce Studio City with John Wells Prods’ Andrew Stearn.

Vernoff has been working on the Showtime dramedy Shameless, developed and executive produced by Wells through Warners. She also recently wrote and executive produced the E! drama pilot Songbyrd.
