Buyers Beware: How 2014 Sundance Films Fared

As a helpful primer for buyers who are thrust into auctions when they are still trying to get used to the dizzying effects of the thin air of Park City, here’s a look at how the films that sold at Sundance Film Festival 2014 fared at the box office marketplace. As you can see, there were some that were able to cross over and do better than prestige film business, but not that many, though VOD stats haven’t been factored into this mix. Didn’t include Boyhood, which played Sundance but which, after being funded for 12 years by IFC, was spoken for and not an acquisitions title. And that film made its official premiere at Berlin and was snuck at Sundance.
