Larry Wilmore On Obama’s SOTU Speech: “Oh, Wait! He Doesn’t Give A …” – Video
“Before we get in too deep on this, I want to be clear about something: I voted for Obama because he’s black,” Larry Wilmore began on his third night as host of Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show. “I’m just clearing it up. People always ask me… ‘Larry, do you agree with Obama’s policies?’ Here is the truth: I agree with the policy that he’s black.”
After reviewing moments in the State of the Union address – deficit cut by two-thirds, creating jobs at fastest rate since ’99, space exploration back on track and on its way to Mars, etc. — Wilmore wondered, “Doesn’t he realize he just lost an historic election, both houses, by historic margins? Even his own party was deserting him? Doesn’t Obama know he won’t be able to get anything done in his last two years?”
Then Wilmore had an epiphany. “Oh wait! He doesn’t give a fuck! No wonder he’s throwing Mars at us!”
Later, during the show’s panel discussion segment, former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett – who created the failed NBC comedy 1600 Penn and is now working on a drama for Showtime about the collapse of the American political system – described working in Washington. “You meet DC politicians and they put one face out to the public and, behind the scenes, they’re devious lunatics. They’re headcases and they’re broken, garbage people. They are. They’re terrible, short-sighted, venal cowardly douchebags. Some of them.” With Obama, however, “what you see is what you get,” Lovett said.
