‘Constantine’ Ratings Down In Return, ‘Shark Tank’ Hits Highs, ‘Blue Bloods’ & ‘Glee’ Even As ABC Wins Night In Demo
Back for a new year and in a new time slot, the demon hunting detective series retuned for the remaining 5-episodes of its 13-episode run. Unfortunately, the ratings sprits were not evoked for Constantine (0.8/3) at 8 PM last night. Moved to a potential more advantageous earlier slot, the series based on the acclaimed DC Comic was down 20% from the near high of its last original at 10 PM on December 12. Fourth among the Big 4 in the new slot, that’s a tie for the worst the struggling show has done since it debuted on October 24. Bloodied in the ratings as it was on last night’s “Saints Of Last Resorts Pt. 2” episode, Constantine also fell a hard 38% from what a new Dateline pulled in the 8 PM time slot back on December 12. With the slot full of Grimm repeats the past few weeks, last night’s Constantine was at least up 14% from the 2-hour episode of the procedural fantasy drama.
Even with Constantine’s stark stumble, the rest of NBC’s night took a relatively minor hit. Back from its winter break, Grimm (1.2/4) dipped 8% from its last new show on December 12. Moved to the 10 PM slot once occupied by Constantine, Dateline (1.0/3) slipped 9% from its 9 PM slot last week.
With a 1.6/6 rating, ABC topped Friday’s primetime among adults 18-49 for the second week in a row but it was roller coaster of a ride getting there. Coming off highs last week, the network’s comedies Last Man Standing (1.3/5) and freshman Cristela (1.1/4) were down 19% and 15% respectively. They were followed by the highest rated show of the night, Shark Tank (2.2/7). The 9 PM entrepreneurial reality show was up 16% among the key demo from last week to hit a season high. As nice as that is for Mark Cuban and gang and ABC, the real talking point will likely be that fast nationals have the show rose 10% in total viewers to hit an all time high with 8.5 million. The previous viewership high was 8.3 million on May 2 last year. Coming out of last night’s Shark Tank, 20/20 (1.4/5) was even with its January 9 show.
In the second week of its sixth and final season, a 1-hour Glee (0.7/2) on Fox was even both in the 9 PM time slot and overall with its 2-hour premiere last week. Lead-in World’s Funniest Fails (1.0/4), hosted by Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Terry Crews, debuted OK for the network on the traditionally slow night. Back from its winter break, Hart Of Dixie (0.4/2) was even with its last original on December 15, which was a Monday. The CW’s only other new show of the night was Masters Of Illusion (0.3/1) at 10 PM. The 9:30 PM Magicians’ showcase show was up 50% from last week.
Though the most watched network of the night with 10.40 million viewers, CBS didn’t have any upward movement last night. But then again, it didn’t really have much down either in what turned out to be a steady Friday. Undercover Boss (1.4/5) and Hawaii Five-O (1.4/5) both dipped 7% from last week. While its massive 12.61 million viewer audience was down from last week’s season high, Blue Bloods (1.4/5) was still easily the most watched show of the night. Viewership may have slipped but the Tom Selleck-led police family drama was even with last week among adults 18-49. That result matches a Season 5 demo high for BB, which the show has peaked at the past three weeks now.
