‘Shahs Of Sunset’ Gets Spring Return Post-Strike On Bravo

Nearly six months after the strike that almost deep-sixed the fourth season of Shahs Of Sunset was resolved, the Bravo reality series will be coming back. Buried among the NBCUniversal owned cabler’s announcement at TCA today, Bravo finally revealed that Season 4 will debut on March 2 at 9 PM. LA-based series regulars Reza Farahan, Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi, Mercedes “MJ” Javid, Asa Soltan Rahmati and Mike Shouhed are back with new cast member Asifa Mirza. No word yet if there will be a fifth season of Shahs, I’m told.

There almost wasn’t a fourth season at all.

The Motion Picture Editors Guild led the over a dozen Shahs postproduction crew members off the job on September 10 in  a strike for an IATSE contract. The editors and others wanted health and pension benefits from Ryan Seacrest Productions. The latter said the day the strike started that they had “every intention of engaging in a discussion as soon as possible.”

In fact the next day Bravo pulled Shahs’ debut date with no replacement in place as things went from bad to worse between all concerned. With escalating protests by post crews, pink slipping by Bravo as they took the show over directly from RSP and charges of unfair labor practices, the action looked set not to be a shahs of sunset strike picket pic 3repeat of the quick resolution of the IATSE Local 700’s successful Survivor labor action of late August and other recent similar actions. Then in mid-October the tempers calmed, the two sides started talking and a deal was hammered out.  “The crew of Shahs Of Sunset voted unanimously to ratify a union agreement, ending the month-long strike,” announced the Motion Picture Editors Guild on October 10. The editors and other post crew returned to work soon afterwards.

Since then it has been very hush hush around the Shahs post production but sources tell me today that editing and other work on Season 4 is still ongoing as Bravo prepares for the debut. “It took everyone a while to get here but we’ve moved on from the fall and the show is ready to go,” a source close to the Shahs production told me today.
