Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone Productions Ink First-Look Deal At Universal

Looks like it was a perfect pitch for the producers of the Pitch Perfect pics. Elizabeth Banks and hubby Max Handelman’s Brownstone Productions have signed a two-year, first-look with Universal, the studio said today. And the timing is pretty good as Banks’ directorial debut and Universal-released Pitch Perfect 2 hits the big screen on May 15, 2015.

“Universal has keenly understood the unique Pitch Perfect brand, and we are excited to now extend that brand to projects beyond the Pitch franchise,” said Banks and Handelman in a statement Thursday after the announcement by Universal co-presidents of production Peter Cramer and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum. “The studio has been a phenomenal creative partner and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Jeff Shell, Donna Langley, Jimmy Horowitz, Peter Cramer, Jeff Kirschenbaum and the whole Universal team.”

The new agreement will see the 8-year-old Brownstone soon move offices to the Universal lot. Banks and Handelman’s company was repped by Untitled Entertainment, UTA and law firm Ziffren Brittenham. As well the second Pitch Perfect movie coming out, the hardworking Brownstone has adaptions of the books White Girl Problems and Ally Carter’s Heist Society in development with Hunger Games distributor Lionsgate. They also have a Tinkerbell-based live action feature in the works at Disney and have just wrapped work the digital comedy series Resident Advisors, set to debut on Hulu in the spring.
