Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken has been set a January 30 release date in China. The film, which traces the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis Zameperini, was released in North America on Christmas Day and has been rolling out internationally since. Universal is releasing the film which just this week screened at the Vatican.
Production and distribution outfit Sonar Entertainment has hired Marielle Zuccarelli to fill the newly-created position of EVP, International Distribution. Zuccarelli will manage Sonar’s international sales team, based in London, Munich, Madrid and Sydney. The exec was most recently Managing Director, International Content Distribution for A+E Networks. Sonar has several projects in development and a number of series in pre-production and production including WEtv’s South Of Hell, MTV’s Shannara and BBC One’s Taboo with Tom Hardy. In December, Sonar announced exclusive first-look deals with Scott Free London and Killer Content.
FremantleMedia International has acquired distribution rights outside North America to MTV’s new scripted thriller, Eye Candy. Based on R.L. Stine’s bestselling novel, the series stars Victoria Justice and is set to premiere on MTV in the U.S. on January 12. Eye Candy centers on 21-year-old tech genius who begins to suspect that one of her suitors is a deadly cyber-stalker. The show is executive produced by Jason Blum in association with his Blumhouse Productions. Additional executive producers include Christian Taylor, Yvonne Bernard and Beth Elise Hawk.
ITV Studios Global Entertainment has appointed Kate Barnes to the newly-created role of Head of Drama Acquisitions and Co-Productions. She will be responsible for driving ITVSGE’s global drama acquisitions, finding new opportunities and working with the drama acquisitions team to partner with producers. Barnes joins ITVSGE from Xbox, where as the Executive Producer of TV in EMEA, she led the development of original, interactive TV content for the Xbox platform. She was previously Head of Digital Channels, 5* and 5USA, and a senior acquisitions executive at BSkyB.
Dori Media Group has acquired global distribution rights to Glam Studios’ The Selfie Challenge. The Israeli reality game show format pits two groups of friends, who are in different locations around the world, against each other in a competition to perfectly mimic ambitious selfies sent to them in real-time. The Selfie Challenge is a Studio Glam format produced in association with NBA Production. Dori, and Ami and Ilan Glam’s Studio Glam have previously collaborated on Win The Crowd and Duel Games.
