NatGeo Wild To Marathon Goldfish & Beavers – TCA
NatGeo Wild again will counterprogram Super Bowl Sunday with four hours of a fish in a bowl. Fish Bowl II, set for 6-10 PM ET on February 1, will feature a goldfish again — this time joined by a clown fish. And this time on a farm. The network said in its announcement that after last year’s premiere they heard from viewers “loud and clear” with tweets such as “I thought it was a joke at first” and “Is every CEO at Nat Geo high?” and decided to double down and make it a “destination event.”
Then, on Groundhog Day, February 2, the network will replay its American Beaver special – for 20 hours, from 7 AM to 3 AM, in honor of Bill Murray’s movie about the day. In the special, cameras track a beaver family for an entire year.
The network also announced it has entered into a licensing deal with the Walt Disney Studios to telecast six Disneynature films — Chimpanzee, Bears, Wings of Life, African Cats, Oceans and The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos — as well as Disney’s Deep Blue. The movies are narrated by the likes of Meryl Streep, Michael Gambon, John C. Reilly, Pierce Brosnan, Tim Allen and Samuel Jackson. Chimpanzee will air first, making its network television premiere this Sunday; the remaining films will debut throughout 2015.
