‘About A Boy’ Season 2 Order Trimmed

NBC has trimmed the second-season order of comedy series About A Boy by two episodes, from 22 to 20. The move is not that surprising given the fact that NBC is scaling back on comedies in midseason. The network only is keeping an hourlong comedy block on Tuesday. Following a double run of back-to-back episodes of Parks & Recreation‘s final season, the block will be populated by multi-camera comedy series Undateable and One Big Happy. With single-camera About A Boy and its Tuesday companion, fellow single-camera freshman Marry Me, on the bench with no return date set, NBC won’t need that many originals of About A Boy. Marry Me only is producing 18 episodes this season.

After a promising start behind The Voice in the Tuesday 9 PM slot last midseason, About A Boy, based on Nick Hornby’s book and the 2002 movie, had an uphill battle in its new 9:30 PM slot this past fall with Marry Me as a lead-in. The series, from Jason Katims, stars David Walton and Minnie Driver.
