Directing ‘The Imitation Game’: Featurette With Morten Tyldum, Benedict Cumberbatch
EXCLUSIVE: In this featurette, director Morton Tyldum talks about creating “The Imitation Game,” the biopic about cryptography pioneer Alan Turing that is up for five Golden Globes, including Best Picture, and three SAG acting awards, among much else.
Star Benedict Cumberbatch, co-stars Matthew Beard and Charles Dance, and composer Alexandre Desplat also talk about Tyldum’s collaborative, upbeat approach in telling the story of an “outsider’s outsider,” a computer pioneer whose status apart from others may have helped him in creating the machine that broke Germany’s “unbreakable” Enigma code during WWII.
Desplat, who has been nominated for six Oscars for his previous film scores, says Tyldum is remarkable for his tempo and almost rhythmic approach to creating and telling a story.
