Melissa McCarthy’s ‘Michelle Darnell’ Gets New Title – Update

Universal Pictures

UPDATED, 6:05 PM: Universal Pictures has unveiled a new title for Michelle Darnell, Melissa McCarthy’s follow-up to the summer hit Spy. The new comedy, about a titan of industry who is busted for insider trading and tries to rebrand herself after prison, now is known as The Boss. The pic keeps its April 8 release date.

PREVIOUSLY, January 5: Universal has slotted Melissa McCarthy-starrer Michelle Darnell for April 8, 2016, a spot previously held by Clifford The Big Red Dog, which will be redated at a later time. Right now, Michelle Darnell goes up against Focus Features’ Jesse Owens’ biopic Race. Based on an original character created and played by McCarthy, Michelle Darnell is a titan of industry who’s sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget. Ben Falcone directs and co-wrote with McCarthy and Steve Mallory. McCarthy and Falcone produce through their On The Day Prods, along with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez Prods.
