‘A Most Violent Year’ Building Momentum

The risky bet of waiting until the last day of 2014 to platform A Most Violent Year in awards season seems to be paying off for A24. The film, directed by JC Chandor and starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, opened on four screens, is turning in the 5th best indie per screen average of the year, behind only The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman, Boyhood and The Imitation Game. Most shows have been sellouts and the film has gotten a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score. Film is clocking in at $50,000 per screen for the three day, $66,000 for the four day and $77,000 for the five day holiday period. More to come in specialty box office report.
