‘Into The Woods’ Review: Pete Hammond On The Anything But Grimm Musical

Grimm’s Fairy Tales get a lively retelling through Rob Marshall’s film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway hit Into The Woods, I say in my video review above.

The film stars Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Anna Kendrick, all turning in fine performances at the lead of a terrific cast. Some are very pleasant surprises as singers, always welcome in a musical.

James Lapine created the screenplay from the Broadway hit that he created with Sondheim. Producers were Marshall, Marc Platt (read my colleague Jeremy Gerard’s conversation with Platt here), John DeLuca and Callum McDougal.

Disney is distributing the film, which opens on Christmas Day in the United States and a number of other territories.

It took quite a while to get this star-filled project launched to the big screen. Will you go? Let us know.
