‘Transparent Life’ Docu-Series About Teen With Transgender Dad Ordered By ABC Family From Ryan Seacrest Prods

ABC Family has given a straight-to-series order to docu-series My Transparent Life, from Ryan Seacrest Productions (Keeping Up With The Kardashians). It centers on a teenager named Ben who learns his parents are not only getting a divorce, but also his dad is becoming a woman. The series will follow Ben, his family and his friends as they go through the experience of watching Charlie slowly become Carly.

The project will inevitably draw parallels to Amazon’s similarly titled comedy series Transparent. Based on creator Jill Soloway‘s real-life experiences, it focuses on adult siblings and their divorced dad who is embarking on a transition from male to female.

“ABC Family is best known for its complex, loving and relatable family programming and we are so proud to partner with Ryan Seacrest Productions to share Ben’s incredible real-life story,” said Tom Ascheim, president of ABC Family. “While Ben’s family situation is unusual, the themes and coming-of-age issues are universal and we think our viewers will find a real connection to them.”

Transparent Life will be produced by Ryan Seacrest, Eugene Young, Rabih Gholam, and George Moll for RSP, as well as Paul Barosse.

“We feel audiences will find Ben’s story relatable on a number of different levels, because at the end of the day, family is family unconditionally,” said Seacrest.

Next for RSP is NBC straight-to-series drama Shades Of Blue starring Jennifer Lopez.
