Katherine Waterston On Finding Shasta In PTA’s ‘Inherent Vice’ – The Contenders

Actress Katherine Waterston talks at Deadline’s The Contenders about not getting a part in Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, and how it worked out a year later. Despite her skeptical lack of preparation the second time around, Waterston was named to play Shasta in Anderson’s newest film, the ’70s L.A. noir yarn Inherent Vice, which Anderson wrote based on a Thomas Pynchon novel.

vertical poster Thomas PynchonThe film also stars Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin and Taylor Bonin. Producers are Anderson and his frequent collaborators, the husband-and-wife team of Daniel Lupi and JoAnne Sellar, who were nominated for Oscars with Anderson for There Will Be Blood.

Warner Bros. is releasing Inherent Vice this weekend, after it first debuted at the New York Film Festival earlier this fall, followed by the AFI Fest.
