‘Dad’s Army’ Falls In For UK Release: More Global Showbiz Briefs

With filming now wrapped on Dad’s Army, Universal Pictures, Screen Yorkshire and DJ films have set a February 5, 2016 UK release date. Universal Pictures International will distribute the film locally and has world rights. It’s based on the classic British sitcom and stars Bill Nighy, Catherine Zeta Jones, Toby Jones, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Mark Gatiss and more. St Trinian’s and Johnny English Reborn helmer Oliver Parker directed the feature that’s produced by Damian Jones. The story is set in 1944 as World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmington-on-Sea, morale amongst local volunteers, the Home Guard, is low. Their new mission to patrol the Dover army base is a great chance to revive their spirits and reputation – until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, setting the pulses racing and putting the local women on red alert. MI5 then discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea: There’s a spy on the loose and the outcome of the war is suddenly at stake.

Married-At-First-SightA+E’s fyi series Married At First Sight is set to walk down the aisle in several foreign markets. The U.S. version of the original Danish format has been sold by Red Arrow International to Italy (Sky Uno), Sweden (SVT), Norway (SBS Discovery), Finland (MTV Oy), Germany (ProSiebenSat.1’s sixx) and is part of an A+E Networks multi-territory deal. The U.S. version has a second season order. Originally created by Snowman Productions for Denmark’s DR3, Married At First Sight sees six singles put their hearts in the hands of a team of experts and marry a total stranger — meeting their partner for the first time at the altar. Six weeks of marriage later, the couples decide to go their separate ways or to take a shot at living happily ever after together.

His responsibilities will include sourcing and developing original commissions as part of Comedy Central’s drive into new content. He will work with writers, directors, agents and comedic talent to generate programming for the UK channel as well as Viacom International Media Networks’ Comedy channels around the world. McVey has spent the majority of his career in production and most recently was a freelance executive producer for Comedy Central UK developing and producing Drunk History, scheduled for local broadcast early next year. Prior to that, he developed and produced comedy and entertainment shows for such companies as Thames, Roughcut, Tiger Aspect, Endemol and Monkey Kingdom. Credit highlights include World’s Craziest Fools, Big Brother’s Big Mouth, The Million Pound Drop, Space Cadets and Oops TV.
